College Test Preparation
College test preparation can be a daunting task. To help, IH PTSA has teamed with Kaplan and Issaquah High teachers to provide several options for you, right at Issaquah High.
Mock SAT tests are given both Fall and Winter; Mock ACT tests are offered only in Winter. College Test Prep classes are offered both Fall and Winter.
Using materials provided by Kaplan, practice tests are administered to approximate the SAT or ACT exam experience including material covered, time constraints and test score/feedback. Tests* and feedback sessions are held at Issaquah High.
*A take-home exam option is available for those unable to make the scheduled test date. If you choose the take-home option, you are responsible for picking up your test from school and mailing it into Kaplan in order to receive your test scores before the scheduled feedback session.
These are a great opportunity to brush up on your SAT skills. The math classes are taught by Ms. Crain; Ms. Dean and Ms. Jarvinen teach the verbal classes. Cost is $85 for math, $100 for verbal and $160 for both classes. Class fee includes the College Board SAT prep book.
Even if you can't make every class, it's still a great deal!
Other Options
For those who are unable to take advantage of the College Test Prep courses offered at Issaquah HS through PTSA, there are many outside companies who offer these courses (Kaplan, Princeton, Huntington, Sylvan, etc.)
Kaplan has supported our students and the PTSA by offering the mock exams at our high school. They also offer discounts off their college prep courses to Issaquah HS students when you sign up for a course. Currently available are the following discounts:
10% off all private tutoring and 10% off Kaplan College Prep Advantage program. In addition, Kaplan will also make a donation to the Issaquah High PTSA. For information on Kaplan programs, go to www.kaptest.com/college.
