District Bond Proposal:
The School District has proposed a bond which will go before the voters on
April 17, 2012. For details about the bond, visit the Issaquah School District
website.
Among other things, this bond will rebuild our oldest schools.
After more than five decades, Clark Elementary, Issaquah Middle,
and Sunny Hills Elementary are at the end of their life spans.
Long-term financial forecasts favor rebuilding now—in a period
of historic low construction costs—rather than making ongoing
major repairs in the years ahead. Additionally, new buildings
tend to run about 30% more efficiently, saving utility dollars
for classroom operations.
Issaquah High PTSA voted to endorse the bond proposal at our
January 13 meeting.
Check back for ways to get involved with the campaign.

High School Schedule Committee: The committee
tasked with determining a common schedule for all District high schools
completed its work in December.
While it did not outline a specific
schedule, it compiled a
final report of key findings.
Superintendent Rasmussen has presented the school board with his
response to the Committee’s work.
His letter to students, staff, and families announces that there
will be no significant changes to the schedules at each high school for
2012-2013; however, he has required action steps be taken at each high
school between now and the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year to
address and rectify the problems that were affirmed, clarified, and
unearthed during the committee’s work. Stay tuned for more information
as the schools embark in the next phase of the process.

Finding Kind is screening at Issaquah High
School on February 1
and at Skyline High School on
January 31. Both screenings are at
6:30 pm. These showings are for ISD
Secondary students 11 years and older and their parents. Boys are
encouraged to attend. Each showing will be followed by a facilitated
discussion by the filmmakers Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson. The
post-movie discussion is geared towards secondary students and is not
appropriate for elementary students. These showings are not open to the
general public.
About the documentary: In Finding Kind, filmmakers
Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, who met while in school at
Pepperdine University, set out in a cross country journey of discovery
and education. Interviewing women and girls along the way about their
lives and experiences, Parsekian and Thompson find, among all of the
unique personal stories, some universal truths about growing up as
girls. Finding Kind is a document of that journey, and of the
filmmakers’ quest to take these experiences and find a common ground of
kindness and mutual respect. In addition to all of the individual girls
and women who share their personal experiences about girl on girl
bullying with the filmmakers, Parsekian and Thompson include interviews
with respected experts and authors in the fields of psychology,
education, and the interrelationships of women and girls.
Watch a
three minute trailer.
These complimentary presentations are made possible by the Issaquah
Secondary School PTSAs, the Issaquah Schools Foundation and Issaquah
PTSA Council.

SAT/ACT Preparation offered by the PTSA: As summer
approaches and you may be thinking about the college admission tests
(SAT and ACT) your Junior may be taking next year. Please be aware that
the PTSA offers a couple of options to help your student prepare for
these important exams.
We offer a Mock (practice) SAT exam in September
and another in February.
We also offer a Mock (practice) ACT at the end of
January.
Additionally, the PTSA offers fall and winter classes that are taught by
Issaquah High School teachers to prepare for the SAT exam.
Mock exams are a nice opportunity to take a practice exam and get score
results without it counting. The test score will be between you and your
student. These Mock exams are not the same as the PSAT that will be
offered in October at school.
The SAT prep classes are offered twice next year and there will be both
afternoon and evening classes to choose from.
Exact dates and registration for the Mock exams and SAT Preparation
classes will be online
beginning in August
If you have any questions please contact PTSA SAT/ACT Readiness Program chairs
