Volunteer Awards
The IH PTSA Awards committee each year solicits nominations for, evaluates and selects recipients of the Golden Acorn, Outstanding Advocate and Outstanding Educator Awards.

The Golden Acorn Award honors people who have given exemplary volunteer service to children and youth in our school community, and is an excellent way to honor PTSA members for their contributions to our organization.

The Outstanding Advocate Award honors individuals for their continued and dedicated advocacy for all children and a demonstrated commitment to helping create strong policies relating to the health, welfare, safety, and education of children and youth. The potential award-winner might be a PTA grassroots advocate, teacher, assistant, administrator or community member.

The Outstanding Educator Award was created by PTSAs to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding educational opportunities for children and youth that are beyond the normal scope of their jobs. An educator can be but is not limited to being a teacher, and can include specialists, support staff, administrators or community members.

Each Golden Acorn, Outstanding Advocate and Outstanding Educator Award recipient is given a gold pin, his/her name is added to a plaque in the main office, and he/she is acknowledged at a reception. Our PTSA also contributes $65 in the recipient’s name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Foundation. These funds provide scholarships for post-secondary students.

Nominations for the Golden Acorn, Outstanding Advocate and Outstanding Educator awards are taken in January.

Award nominations can be submitted by opening the appropriate form below, completing as much information as you can, saving it to your computer, and emailing it to the PTSA Awards committee chairs: Christy Garrard and Kellie Woodford.

State PTA Awards
The Awards committee prepares and submits applications annually for State PTA awards. In 2008, we were recognized as the Washington State PTA Outstanding Local Unit of the Year.

We are routinely awarded a State PTA Standards of Excellence award, meaning we operate our PTSA using State-defined “best practices” and follow all laws governing non-profit organizations.
