AWARDS

Issaquah High PTSA wins top award at the 2008 Washington State PTA Convention!

The highest honor within the Washington State PTA organization is an annual award called the Outstanding Local Unit of the Year. This award has only rarely been awarded to a high school PTA in its history.

The Outstanding Local Unit of the Year is defined as the PTA unit that, when compared to all others in their unique environments and within their own special circumstances, is selected as the most representative example of a local unit which exemplifies the purposes and mission of PTA. The annual winner of this award represents the Washington State PTA membership at its annual National PTA convention held in June. This year’s convention will be held in San Diego.

What does this award mean at IHS?  This award is an indicator of many things, not the least of which are the many talented and generous volunteers who understand the value of maintaining high levels of parental involvement in their local school and community and don’t back away because they think involvement is only important when children are little. It means that the students of Issaquah High School are valued and that adults join PTSA every year as a show of support towards them. With 1340 members, the adults of the IHS community have said yes to student support and can take pride in their role, big or small, in making Issaquah High a better place for our youth. It also means that our PTSA sets goals, collaborates, advocates, communicates, devises programs, evaluates, and manages its operations carefully to make sure valuable contributions are used to their highest a nd best purpose.

The IHS PTSA was also recognized with these awards:

100% Membership

Honor Unit

Standards of Excellence

National PTA Unit Achievement Award

2008 Leadership Academy Crystal Level Honorees: Marianne Kersten & Deborah Parsons

Congratulations to all our members, for these accomplishments could not have been met without the presence of each and every one of you in the Issaquah High community.

 State PTA Awards

The Awards committee prepares and submits applications annually for State PTA awards.  We consistently are recipients of the “Standards of Excellence” award.

Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator Awards

This committee also solicits nominations for, evaluates and selects recipients of the Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator Awards.

The Golden Acorn Award honors people who have given exemplary volunteer service to children and youth in our school community, and is an excellent way to honor PTSA members for their contributions to this association.

The Outstanding Educator Award was created by PTSAs to recognize individuals who have provided outstanding educational opportunities for children and youth that are beyond the normal scope of their jobs.  An educator can be but is not limited to being a teacher, and can include specialists, support staff, administrators or community members.

Each Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator Award recipient is given a gold pin, his/her name is added to a plaque in the main office, and he/she is acknowledged at a reception.  Our PTSA also contributes $65 in the recipient’s name to the Washington State PTA Scholarship Foundation.  These funds provide scholarships for post-secondary students.

Nominations for the Golden Acorn and Outstanding Educator awards are typically solicited in late January.  An announcement will be on the PTSA home page.
