SENIOR CELEBRATION
Class of 2009 (Current Junior Class)
If you are interested in helping
with the 2009 Senior Celebration and want to hear more about it, please join us
on Thursday, May 29 at
_____________________________________________________________________________
As you may know, the PTSA helps
with the following events in a limited manner:
·
Senior Celebration (post graduation party)
·
Senior Breakfast
·
Baccalaureate
Other events, such as the Prom
and Senior Assembly, are planned by the senior class officers.
These programs and events are
now under PTSA to assist with continuity between classes as far as planning
documentation goes, and to provide the credibility of a well known school
connected non-profit organization to ease procurement of cash support, catering
and prizes. An organized system of
financial management is also provided along with some insurance.
PTSA does provide partial cash
support to both the Baccalaureate and the Senior Breakfast but relies on the
self-identification of parent volunteers to run the organization of the events
and procure the remaining funds to support the events. Much of the funding is generated through
ticket sales. Most parent groups both
past and present secure a private company to manage the actual senior
celebration of which there are variety in our area to choose from.
To make things easiest for the
Class of 2009, we are hoping that parents interested in taking the lead on
these events will come forward to begin early planning and volunteer
recruitment in addition to investigating the various private companies
available. With many groups forming in
other area high schools for their senior classes, there becomes a type of
competition for party venues even while your students are still juniors.
With an active parent group
currently working on senior events for the Class of 2008, much can be learned
now by observing the planning underway that will make next year easier for
volunteers and organization.
Ultimately, there will be a
need to have separate co-chairs for each of the PTSA senior events with the
most volunteer coordination centered on the celebration party. The senior party
leaders will likely form sub-committees. Detailed notebooks exist from previous years
plus many of the leaders of the past events are available for questions.
If you would like to be
part of the planning group for the class of 2009 PTSA Senior Events, please
contact Marianne
Kersten, PTSA president.
Please understand that the PTSA supports these events but these
memorable events can only happen if volunteers come forward. (There is no
obligation for the PTSA to provide these events if no leaders volunteer.)
Once formed, the leadership
group will be trained in the applicable PTSA procedures and then work
independently. A Senior Events Committee
chairperson will serve as the link between the PTSA board and committee. A great deal of the ticket sales will occur
during back to school registration next August making organization much easier.
These events have become a
memorable part of the IHS graduation tradition.
Thanks for your consideration
of this important role for our students.
