Upcoming PTSA Meeting

Please join us for our next IH PTSA meeting Friday, February 12, 9:30 AM, room C-5 (Career Center).

Membership Update and Benefits

The Issaquah High PTSA is now 1,055 members strong although our goal is to reach 100% membership, which means we need to reach at least 1,275 members.  One benefit of membership is receiving one student directory per membership.  Directories are still available if you would like to join, click here for our membership form.  If you would like to receive a National PTA membership card please contact Karen Knitter at mindydog3@comcast.net.

Read on for yet another PTSA Member benefit!

As part of a National PTA benefit program, T-Mobile offers 14% off monthly recurring cell phone charges (BOEING offers their employees 15%).  Both offer non-recurring charge benefits in which activation charges may be waived.

If you are a family or individual PTSA member, you can call T-mobile to request the 14% discount affiliated with the WA State PTA. The user/member that is named on the cell phone account must make the call.

Here is the information you will need:

1) Issaquah High PTSA’s unit ID number:  2.6.45

2) The telephone number of the State PTA to verify your membership: 800-562-3804

3) Your PTSA member number.  If you don’t know your number, contact IH PTSA Membership Chair, Karen Knitter at mindydog3@comcast.net.

The discount stays in effect for as long as you are a PTA member and the PTA has the affiliation with T-mobile!  For BOEING, a 15% discount applies (the employee needs to be the main mobile number on the account to qualify for the discount).

Do the math…. what is 14% of your monthly cell phone bill?  I calculated that our family should receive a discount of approximately $20 per month.  If you consider that a yearly family membership is $24 and individual is $16, that is quite a benefit!

Site Council

The Issaquah High Site Council is comprised of staff, parents, students, and community representatives who meet to address issues that impact student learning. Areas in which we are focusing our efforts this year include monitoring progress of the Optimal High School Experience task force, the School construction project, preparing for transition into the new buildings and the return of freshman to our campus. The next meeting is scheduled for March 24th at 2:30 pm. Karin Allen is the PTSA liaison. Please contact her at kallen@allenmarketing.com if you have any issues you'd like her to raise on behalf of the PTSA community.

Volunteers for Issaquah Schools Update

Vote NOW and vote YES!

Ballots for the Issaquah School District Levy were mailed to all registered voters between Jan. 18th  and 20th.

VIS will be out in force with parents and School District staff waving signs and making phone calls to remind people to vote.  When you see those signs and receive that call, be sure to show your support.

We need 9908 YES votes on all 3 levies for the February 9th ballot – make sure yours is on all of them!

X   Yes   ___No     M & O:  Basic general classroom and operational needs – teachers and classified staff

X   Yes   ___No     Capital:  Technology and critical repairs

X   Yes   ___No     Transportation:  41 new safe, clean, and efficient buses

These are renewal levies and WILL NOT raise your taxes.  They will renew existing and expiring levies.  When these levies pass, the average homeowner will pay the same or lower school taxes for the next 4 years.

To help with this campaign, please go to www.visvote.org to donate and/or sign up to volunteer.

SAT Readiness

SAT Prep classes (6 weeks of classes - none mid-winter break) will be offered starting the week of Feb. 1.  It is not too late to sign up.  We have lots of space in the late classes (5:00 - 7:00).  Math classes will be offered on Mondays and Verbal Classes will be offered on Thursdays.  They will be taught by Ms. Crain (math) and Ms. Jarvinen and Ms. Dean (verbal).  There will be two classes offered for each subject - early class 2:45 - 4:45 and late class 5:00 - 7:00.  The PTSA website has online registration.  See www.issaquahhighptsa.org for more information.

Mock ACT exam:  These are a great opportunity to try out the ACT exams without the worry of colleges seeing your test scores.  These tests are administered by Kaplan and are a chance to be exposed to the test material and test time constraints.  The exams are conveniently offered here at school.

The Mock ACT exam is to be offered Saturday, February 6, 2010.  Online registration is available on the website.  A take home option is also available.

Call Blythe Meigs (425) 401-1508 or e-mail at SATreadyihs@hotmail.com if you have questions.

IH PTSA Awards

We’d like your input.... Every year the PTSA honors people who have given exemplary volunteer service to children and youth in our school community by awarding the Golden Acorn Award.  We also recognize individuals for their on-going advocacy work on issues concerning children by awarding the Outstanding Advocate Award.  We need your help in gathering nominations.  Please submit forms to Lisa Westover at gbwestover@comcast.net by February 5, 2010.  Both forms can be found at www.issaquahhighptsa.org under forms, or click on the links to the awards mentioned above.

Senior Events

Seniors – don’t forget to register for the Senior All Night Grad Party! We have reopened registration so that no one misses out on this amazing night after graduation.  We will extend the deadline for another month.  Click on the link below to sign up. http://www.issaquahhighptsa.org/Forms/Senior%20Celebration%20Registration-Release.pdf

Junior Parents – we are looking for a volunteer that would like to coordinate the 2011 Senior All Night Party.  This is an amazing event that is put on by a senior events company and they do most of the work!  We need a person that would be willing to work with the company and coordinate with the school and kids.  Please contact Colleen Volk at ncvolk@comast.net to find out more.
